I've been looking for a sample of traditional, a cappella, african-american slave songs -- something deep, low, with a lot of bass -- spiritual and moving, akin to the sound track of "O Brother Where Art Thou?" ie. something the might have been recorded in the mid 1800's
My searches here have uncovered some great modern gospels, but i've been searching for something without the organs, and pianos -- something less like a hymn and more like spontaneous song while working in the fields under the hot sun.
any ideas or a point in the right direction?
thanks a lot
