I've heard this sound effect used A LOT in live music
https://youtu.be/ul404CpmhRg?t=2m6s (2min 6seconds in) it does it 3 times....
https://youtu.be/MYdifebp9mQ?t=39s (39 seconds in) it does it twice....
Is it some sort of keyboard thing? I've always wanted to use it myself but i don't know what it is or called - does anyone know or can help me?
Thanks!!!!

Synth stab ?, e.g. ... http://www.freesound.org/people/Blackie666/sounds/87165/
.
www.freesound.org/search/?q=synth+stab
The most common sound of that kind is the "Orchestral Hit" patch of all the GM/GS-compliant soundfonts.
Of course it can also be thickened further by extra synth layers like I've done here

but since that patch name is a standard, it may help your searches quite a bit.
