    Is there a name?...

... for the (medical) condition that causes Freesounders to download enormous amounts of sounds?
That makes them decide that the sound of the day (or some other sound that they just happened to stumble accross) is just amazingly good and must be downloaded?

Has any research been done into this condition?

    Is there a cure?
    (Do we want a cure?)

    Please share your thoughts.

    I want to believe.

Due to the current scarcity of samples, the results aren't exactly sound yet.

A while back they changed the default search order from most-downloaded and weighted it towards newest-uploaded. Before the change some of my sounds were getting around 5 to 15+ downloads a day. After the change that dropped down to 1 or 2 downloads/day, where it has remained ever since. It actually happened overnight the day they introduced the change. As long as downloaders are happy with what they find that's okay by me, but if they are missing out on more appropriate samples then that's a pity. In a forum post about the search prior to the change I did suggest a more complicated algorithm that would weight by downloads per week (or some such) so that it did not send newish samples down the list to page 56, but also did not bury obviously popular samples either.

    Wibby.
