Hi all you folks at Freesound,
I have a question about how to extract some audio from DSLR video footage, basically I have some footage but the audio needs cleaning up, and would like to be able to extract it so that I can take it into Audacity, clean it up, then drop it back into premiere
Can anyone recomend a free software to do this?
Thankyou
Ade
Second Corsica. In premiere (and I used it a while ago, so this may not apply), there usually is a chain symbol (sort of like the link symbol one finds in word or google docs). Click on that and the audio and video will get separated. You should be able to export it (or even copy paste it) from premiere to audacity.
Doesn't audacity, too, have an option like "import audio from video file"?
Ok thanks people, I'll go and do some further investigation of what I already have, I'm quite new to all this
Thanks
If you're in Premiere, the easiest way to do it is to edit in Audition (if you have a CC license it's a must-install - it was also part of "Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium", if you have that). If you right-click on the audio clip you want to work on the context option "Edit Clip in Adobe Audition" should come up. The great thing about this is that it use Adobe's dynamic link library, creates a new copy of the audio for you to edit, and when you save and go back into Premiere the audio you edited is no in the place of the original.
If you don't have Audition, or you really want to use Audacity you have to render the audio you want to edit like you would any video but just rendering the audio: File > Export > Media. For the format choose something like "Waveform Audio" and check the option for "import into project". You can set in and out points on your project if you just want to export specific sections or clips of audio. Once rendered you can edit the wav in Audactity. Once you're done, go back into Premiere and, in the Project panel, select the audio file you've just edited. You may have to "unlink" or "ungroup" the original audio from the video clip so that you can just select the audio clip but then you can right-click on it and in the context menu select Replace With Clip from Bin. Alternatively you can drop the new audio on a new track right under the old one and then either mute the entire original track or turn the volume of the original clip to zero.
There is no 'right' way to do it. These are just the ways I normally do it.
Regards - Martin
Thanks Martin,
I have an older version of premiere and I dont have Audition, so your reply was extremely helpful, Thankyou!
