Will fresound be changing to the cc by 4.0 license?
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
I really hope so as I am trying to be more compliant with the attribution guidelines, and it would make my credit sequences in my videos much neater as I wouldn't have to list the name of each. I also prefer baked in credits as I don't have to worry where I put the video, I know attribution is self contained.
In the past without knowing there were rules/guidelines I did this.
"Sound effects:
Person X
Person Y
Person Z"
I have found in researching this that doing what I have done will probably be accepted by most as okay, but I plan to do this as a minim in the future.
"cc by X.X sound effects.
Site X
Person X
Person y
Site y
Person z"
With the current 3.0 license, if I follow the rules I would have.
"cc by 3.0 sounds
Site x
Sounds X, y and z by Person X
Sound X by person y"
Even worse in my opinion is some places want you to do
"Item X by person X
Item y by person X"
Hey there
We upgraded the licenses a few months ago, so you should see CC 4.0 now. However, bear in mind that we can't just change the license type of peoples uploads without their consent, so contributors are presented with the option when they login to upgrade their licenses.
So because of this you may still find a load of sounds that have not yet been upgraded.
Thanks. I will check my sounds. I do feel many would be okay with my style of crediting, I am not the only one that does it.

You need to update this page. It still has links to 3.0 license. https://freesound.org/help/faq/#wait-this-is-all-free
At first I was a little annoyed that you were giving people the option to update the license, but after getting a break I realized how good that is and I love you guys! I used to use soundsnap.com and eventually they changed where you have to buy the sounds. This was because running the servers is expensive. While they did offer people the chance to make money uploading sounds, some accounts obviously hadn't logged in in years and likely would have their sounds sold without consent. They don't have an audio watermark so I may find the sounds I used to have but lost and record them with Audacity or something. Thanks for offering us the choice.
Hi, I've been a fan of freesound since very early (Has been a user for 13 years, 4 months), using it in all kinds of different video edits. But recently I see I need to clarify the sounds I use in my edits (CC), which isn't possible. So freesound doesn't really feel free anymore? The company I work for now has an Artlist account so I've been using that (and finding freesound uploaders there too which is funny).
But pls can you shine some light on these developments? I cannot have rights issues after I use it in my edits. But I love freesound...
Thanks

Hi
Nothing has changed, other than the Creative Commons updating their BY licenses to version 4.0. The requirements are essentially the same; Attribution licenses need to be credited in the works in which they are used. It has always been like this so I don't know what you mean by the "recent need to clarify the sounds".
Disregard for a moment the version number for the CC licenses. This is the very basic guideline for use of this material...
CC Zero licensed sounds do not need credits, which is what you should be using if you are not able to give attribution.
CC BY do need credits
CC BY (Non commercial) is self explanatory
Does this help clear things up?
