    Crediting contributors in metadata

    Hi,

I've recently used some sounds from here in my own creations. All samples have either an Attribution or CC0 license. How would I credit authors properly when filling the metadata (like ID3,...)? I haven't shared any of those creations anywhere public but if I ever do I'd like to credit everyone properly. So far I've just listed them in the Comments tag as they aren't authors of my work and there was no Contributors tag to add them to. Also, is there a proper way to mention them? I figured putting a username then (freesound.org) would be good enough.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey

There's nothing wrong with using ID3 tags to attribute as long as you provide all the required info, but not many people think to look at the metadata beyond track name and author.

Because of this, I would recommend you also credit CC-BY sounds in the same place you are publishing, for example, soundcloud/youtube description etc if you decide to publish. Although it's not absolutely necessary, it will be much more obvious; it's up to you.

    CreativeCommons.org states for proper attribution:

If supplied [the license], you must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties, a copyright notice, a license notice, a disclaimer notice, and a link to the material. CC licenses prior to Version 4.0 also require you to provide the title of the material if supplied, and may have other slight differences.

Don't worry too much about the disclaimer part. Just include the following and you'll be fine:

    1. Title of the media file
    2. Author (alias or real name, doesn't matter)
    3. The license type
    4. Link to media where you obtained it (in this case the Freesound URL)

I hope this was helpful to you

    Kindest,
    Sam
