    Privacy policy issues?

IANAL, but I think Freesound's terms of service are not in compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which has been enforceable effective 26 May 2018.

In particular, the terms of use of this website implicate that users have consented to collection and data storage by Google as a condition of using this service. However, GDPR requires that any processing of personally identifiable information, not strictly necessary to use the service, must done with explicit opt-in consent.

Additionally, although this is only fine print here, GDPR also states that an operator may not refuse service to those who do not consent to data processing that is not strictly necessary to use the service.

In fact, why are we even using Google for this when you could use something self-hosted and controllable such as Matomo (formerly Piwik?)

    Hi,
This hasn't skipped our attention, but thanks for bringing it up. We have made a few informational changes to our terms and conditions. We are in the process of making some changes to the site to collect consent from users to continue providing freesound to you. When these changes are ready we'll make an update and notify our users.
    Thanks for your concern!

    I'm a core freesound developer!
