I was on the ferry going back home and I wanted to record the ferries horn and the announcements. The ship blasts it's horn before leaving the dock and then does safety announcements afterwards. This is that recording. Enjoy.

Trivia: The BC Ferries chime at #2:30, burned into every BC resident's brain, is 'C-A-F' played on a Roland D-50 synth, preset P1-11 'Fantasia'. THE DEFAULT FACTORY POWER-ON PRESET.
I wonder how much the musician contracted to come up with this signature sound was paid? Does BC Ferries know he/she probably banged out this signature sound in around 30 seconds?
Let's hope they weren't charged what Microsoft paid Brian Eno for the Windows 95 startup sound :)
(Don't get me wrong -- the BC Ferries chime is great -- calming and distinctive ... but it almost seemed too easy to create. Maybe that's exactly why it's genius!)
And, more importantly ... why didn't BC Ferries choose to make their signature chime 'B-C-F' (try some inversions of it -- it can be just as pleasing and memorable, perhaps more so, with the 'B', as 'C-A-F')?
What a missed opportunity for a musical Easter Egg!
