recorded in the summer of 1992 in a small village in SW Turkey called Patara...this is the first 'ezan' (call to prayer) of the day at dawn (about 5am)...muezzin (the men who recite the ezan) now use microphones...but despite a chorus of crickets the quality here is not obscured by traffic or other human noise...I used a portable Sony DAT recorder...

  I downloaded this before, and love it just as much now. And you know, the crickets, to me, are perfect. It shows that these calls to prayer take place in the world, anywhere. They add something to it, place it in the world. Thanks for the recording.
