It's very relaxed here and I need it very much. There is a little sun coming trough the treetops. It is between 8 and 9 pm. A little wind. Behind the protestant church a small square (50x30m) with small houses and trees. Behind the church is the River 'Dieze' where barges sail to the city's inland (Hear the deep humming halfway the recording).
The only loud thing in this recording is the church-bell after 4 and 34 minutes (WATCH YOUR EARS).
I like to hear the people in the distance.
History
This church (right) is in fact the absis of a larger church build in 1587. When the church was badly damaged by the war between the States and the Spanish troops, in 1587 it was over 300 years old! In 1285 the church was transferred from the Diocese of Liege to the Order of the Norbertine Abbey of Berne, which was located on the other side of the Meuse in Heusden. The Abbey was granted the right to appoint priests in this village.
During the 80-year war Engelen belonged to Holland and was due to its location on the border between Holland and Brabant often ravaged by war. From 1579-1592 occupation was not even possible.
Recorded: July 1st 2013, 8-9 pm, De Kerkhof (street that small that it's not on the map), Engelen, Netherland (Holland). Temp 13c, partly cloudy, wind W 1-4 bft.
