Very loud cricket! Apparently for some species of Cricket you can get a rough estimate of the temperature by counting the chirps in a given space of time. Well it was 20 Celsius when this little beastie was recorded. Recording chain: Rode NT4 (Stereo mic, in Rode Blimp) - Edirol R44 digital recorder.

It is not a mole cricket - it is a field cricket, probably in the genus Gryllus or Teleogryllus. Mole crickets make a very loud continuous trilling call, without any obvious separate chirps.

You mean, they've started to prepare for the winter. Sometimes the cricket's chirp hits the sweet spot of the microphones. Nice.
