Moving the 26 meter radio-telescope on Mt Pleasant near Hobart Tasmania, not a great recording unfortunately, it was bleak and windy on the day, and the wind-speed overwhelms the furry-blimp on occasions. I was staying near-by and raced up the hill one afternoon on a whim to record it moving but was kept a fair distance back by the security fence. At 0:00-0:50 is the telescope spooling up and moving. 0:50-1:51 the telescope is stationary and idling (flywheels), 1:52-2:20 the flywheels spool down, 2:20 the locks engage and the system is off...exciting to watch. I will have to go back and do it better another time. Recording chain: Rode NT4 (stereo mic in blimp) - Sound Devices MixPre (mic preamp) - Edirol R09 (digital recorder).

Actually something seems wrong at the moment...looks like someone put their jumper over the camera :)
wow—just looked. That must be the sky around it, right? I'll check back, maybe they put up images regularly. (And btw, the other links there are fascinating! Data, info, etc. Thanks for the fascinating link, D!)
BTW: there is a live web-cam...

If it's black, its night-time in Australia :)
Thanks, I feel that it's important that people know how and where sounds were captured. Hopefully that will inspire others to start recording too.
As a professional, you feel this could have been done better (as you say), but you have to know that, for most of us, this is the closest we'll come to such an amazing sonic event. This is thrilling. And as always you supply info, pics, etc. A consummate upload as always. This is amazing. Even the way it winds down. Wonderful.
