Immediately after the 21-gun salute I heard the sound of a noisy airplane taking off from the nearby airport. When I saw that it was a WWII era fighter plane I turned the recorder back on. The plane makes two passes over the parade route, and when it is directly overhead, the propeller noise is intense. Sorry I don't know my fighter planes well enough to tell you the exact model. There is also a bit of wind noise here and there. My next priority is to make some kind of wind zeppelin.
Update 3/25/2016: Very sad news - this pilot and his passenger were killed when his airplane (the one from the recording) crashed into the Columbia River: http://www.columbian.com/news/2016/mar/25/search-continues-for-missing-vancouver-plane/
Update 11/11/2015: Thanks everyone for the comments. The consensus seems to be that it is this aircraft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_T-6_Texan
I have some good news - I went to the same event this year and the plane made an appearance, after being absent for a few years. This year's recording seems even better than the one above. I'll get it posted up here soon.

Very good! Thanks!
Very nice!!! Thank you!
thank you
Great sound indeed, I think this plain is called a Harvard, I've seen and herd them many times during airshows. I live near the Waterkloof aircraft museum and airforce base just 3km away. Don't worry about the wind noise, didn't hear too much of that. Awesome recording!
VERY nice set of sounds. Thanks, sir!
