Known for his versatility, Jon Daou is a composer and producer who has become a musical figurehead in a variety of creative arenas. Since graduating from his studies in composition and electronic music at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Jon has written several pieces for concert, film and theatre. Notable projects include a variety of live electronic film scores at the Barbican cinema, a soundtrack for a play directed by Richard Twyman (Royal Shakespeare Company) and multiple commissions for award-winning film production outfit, Motion Picture House. His classical works have been performed at venues such as the Southbank Centre, the Wigmore Hall, the Louise T. Blouin Institute and many more.
Under the moniker 'DAOU', Jon has earned his place in the world of underground electronic dance music. As a DJ, he is a regular booking in London’s techno club scene and his techno releases have earned acclaim from such artists as Magda, Swayzak, Adultnapper, Josh Wink and Anderson Noise. He has received radio and magazine support across the UK, Germany and America.
Jon has also joined forces, as 'Maker', with long-time friend and musical peer, Rob Meyer. Together, they are known as the DJ duo 'Maker + Meyer' and their partnership has proven massively successful amongst the techno community. Maker + Meyer currently hold DJ residencies with London's uncompromising techno beacon, VOID, and Sunday daytime party paradise, Ultraplay, through which they've now become a staple of East London's unique afterparty/day party club culture.
Jon Daou's passions in other areas of music and and art remain strong. In his spare time, he studies cymatics and other sonic phenomena and he is currently researching and developing concepts for a series of sound, video and kinetic art installations. Jon is also reaching into the world of contemporary dance, with an extraordinary collaboration with a pioneering choreographer. Watch this space...
