Thanks for the tip! In my case I required sand falling / rinsing down from a cliff which is why I went with the gravel sample to begin with. Unfortunately I don't own a proper microphone to record on my own, so I'm stuck with editing existing sounds or virtual sound creation.

Sand pouring on sand is damn near silent. Pouring sand on a sheet of newspaper or a plastic bag works great.
