This is a recording of a swarm of bees that took up temporary residence in my studio kitchen! It was recorded in late spring. The whole wall was covered in bees. I used a Zoom H1 and applied just a little highpass filtering and eq to get rid of the hum of my computer which was on in the same room as the bees.
I was rather happy about the arrival of the bees. We had had honeybees build their hive in our walls for many years but then about five years ago all the honeybees disappeared. I understand this is a worldwide phenomenon and a bit of a worry considering the vital role that bees provide in fertalising flowers and fruit.
I left the window open and came back the next day to find them gone again.

Wow! What an amazing sound! And what wonderful presence of mind to record it. This is great and is perfect for an audio sketch I'm doing about a restaurant where they have bees in the corner. I have used this sound effect in Release The Clowns Sketch Comedy Podcast Episode 69 (fully credited in the Show Notes from 16/03/2020). Find it here
