Built in Rotterdam in 1958, the Dutch passenger liner SS Rotterdam (steamship) sailed regular services between the Netherlands, UK and the United States. It also made many cruises. After being put out of service it was bought by a consortium from Rotterdam and restored into its original state. On August 5th, 2008, it was brought back to Rotterdam from its shipyard in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. A number of tug boats towed it back to its final destination in the middle of the city. A large crowd was waiting to welcome the ship back home and many boats used their horns to make it a special last trip. Recorded from the balcony of my apartment in Rotterdam, Sony PCM-D50. Thanks Dobroide! For many old people who worked on this ship (or built it), this return to home was very emotional so it felt good recording it.

terrific sample. With all the contextual info you give in the description this sample is nearly a piece of literature on things past (but not forgotten)
