Maister Frank Docherty is Terry Brown's senior student and has been training with him since 1994. Frank was instrumental in helping Terry pressure-test the methods and techniques of English martial arts during the formative years of the Company of Maisters. Frank is one of the Company's Anciant Maisters as well as being the Director and Chief Instructor of the English Martial Arts Academy
Frank started his martial arts training 32 years ago in Hap Kune Do in 1980 under the tutelage of Sifu Dave Lee where he received his black sash in the five animals system and Kickboxing. His training also includes Iaido where he received a ranking of Shodan, Jodo where he received a ranking of Shodan under sensei Don Antonio Leon and sensei Charles Wheaton.
Frank also trained in modern Boxing for over 20 years. He has also taught close-quarter combat in partnership with Tae kwon do 2nd degree blackbelt James Danson.
Frank is also part of a living lineage of threshal fighters having been taught the art by his Grandfather Fred Brewster who was in turn taught by his own grandfather, bareknuckle boxer Fighting Bill Tottenham.
In addition Frank worked as a professional bodyguard for 20 years and his clients included celebrities and business people. He also worked as a minder (bodyguard) for nightclub owners with gang related issues as well as being a nightclub door supervisor for 30 years as both head door and as a consultant to several clubs which had gang and drug related problems.
Frank holds the following qualifications: a BTEC in Counselling, Grief Counselling, and a City and Guilds qualification in clinical hypnosis, Clinical Ethics, and Business Management and holds the title MCHC.
