    Square Wheels

Finished today, a Youtube movie with 3 Freesound sounds, from Brotherprovisional, Nathanshadow and Felix Blume.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50fpY2A37JQ

It's about an alien civilization that has somehow not invented the wheel but which developed along another line. It's a sketch in itself but it will be part of a somewhat bigger movie that I'm planning, about a human astronaut introducing the wheel there.

Very funny indeed, like your previous movies too smile

And I found it paradoxically funny that those aliens invented the steering wheel and never thought about applying it to locomotion! grin

this was great, I never worked with stop motion animation yet, I've used GIMP animation and Movie Maker slide shows which I guess is kind of stop motion. I think I need better equipment to do something like this though. I have a couple videos on you tube, they were just experiments using the programs above

    NOTICE

I have moved from Youtube to Dailymotion, for reasons of privacy (as long as Dailymotion does not repeatedly urge you to use your real name, and disregards your NO to it, like Youtube was so unwise to do, I'll be found at Dailymotion.com).

    New URL:

The equipment to be used is not really that impressive, to create this.

I "stole" some sand from public grounds and filtered it with a sieve after it had dried up, in order to filter out den tree needles, or horse hairs or whatevever. Costs: one sieve.

The small green things in the soil are remnants of Icelandic moss from a model store, they use that to create trees or bushes for model train hobbies (oh that smell!). About 10 euros for a bag full.

The background with stars is a dark cardboard plate with confetti glued to it. If the camera is focused not on the background but on objects / personages on the foreground, it doesn't look like Confetti. About 15 euros.

The camera I use is an old 5 megapixel one from Fuji, but a 2 megapixel one would do the job easily as well. Price nowadays may be below 100 euro (not back then!).

The camera is attached to the rim of the table with a "lijmklem" (dutch word), it's a kind of tool to squeeze glued parts together, don't know the English word for it. One tip: don't hold this in hand while right in front of your window, if you have nosy neighbours living opposite to you, which are glad to call the police for anything they regard as suspected. It looks much like a machine gun! smile price about 10 to 15 euros or so.

IN order to keep the lighting constant, I use 2 lamps which give off a slightly bluish light. Ordinary lamps have been forbidden, it's the economic type of lamp of 25 euros each. And of course the lamp (holder) itself. All in all for 2 lights, something like just below 100 euro. Blueish light comes closest do daylight. I have a third one on my wishlist in order to prevent some undesired shadows in other movies.

I think that's all. The table that I use for this hobby is trapezoid (with the wide end closest to the wall because of the angle of view). I made that largely from spare wood parts but it's not expensive either.

As long as you keep out "scale 1:1" objects from your home like vacuum cleaners, coffee cups or your TV etcetera, the viewer will be the more in this "small world" illusion.

This movie may have been located at an area less than 1 by 1 meter or so (1 by 1 yard).

Thanks to you all for the compliments! It's kind of like a little "party" to get this kind of feedback.

Depends on what planet you're from.

I come from Giliese 581D, located in the constellation Libra. There we actually call the device:

"∇⊇≮∴₪ ♉⚗⚈♇" this would be romanised as - "Tetzatz`u Ebichuka"

Whoah! Nice to meet you! Have you already devised the device we call "wheel" up there? grin

    Likewise; earthling.

Of course, we are not 'cave men'. The wheel was invented some years ago; about the time when the dinosaurs reigned this planet.

In comparison to Earth, we are roughly 1,564,725.635 years ahead in civilisation.
Although, the time system differs, considering that on Giliese one year is approximately 0.7964 earth years.

If my brain is working correctly, that would be almost precisely 1,246,147.49571

We have just invented a bio mechanical device that uses nano machines to disassemble an entire being for safe and indefinite transportation across the galaxy.

Maybe one day, we'll find a more elegant solution to space waste than the following:

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xuz9bo_space-waste_fun

All sounds in there are Freesound sounds (farting is the best!)

    - Sound no 26216 Walter Odington - Grim Fart
    - Sound no 94989 doubledeanart - Bad Chili Fart
    - Sound no 113763 Manicciola - Fart 5
    - Sound no 160201 Psynaptix - Grainulated Awesomeness

Probably because of the word "fart" Dailymotion has automatically put a family filter on it.
One has to be 18 plus to watch this grin grin

I think the correct word for this on earth is: Gluing clamp.
A vice, is a large solid metal clamp, normally fixed on the side of a workbench that you use to hold the object your working on.

No sence in teaching our alien friends the wrong words..... smile
