Ok so im starting work on a minecraft mod that will add to computercraft an ai speech system... ok so that sounds a bit more impressive then it is lol but thats the core.
I have been watching a show called person of interest and in it the ai delivers numbers and in very rare occasions it delivers the odd sentence over the phone every time it does the words are not computer generated like you can get with a speech synth but are actual samples of seperate words
(this sample is a good example <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mlhd1AW_3s" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mlhd1AW_3s</a> ) Theres something cool and artificial about the way its done, which is ofcourse what the shows developers went for, now for computercraft i have already added a speechsynth so that part is easy, i know how to add sounds to the game etc
My plan is to have a bank of sound files that have all common words and then expand it as time goes on...yes it will be big but then they dont have to be high quality samples, when a player tells the "ai" to say something in a computercraft program or when it says something in its core code it will take that string (lets say "can you hear me?") split it into its individual words in an array ([can, you, hear,me]) then play the coresponding sound files one at a time with a brief pause inbetween to all players nearby (ie can.ogg you.ogg hear.ogg me.ogg) any words that it does not know will be filled in with a speech synth (i can even add the option to have the ai malfunction, the sounds would be assigned deferent tempos/pitch to normal and a chance to have the last word repeated at the same time as the next word with a new random pitch would make an almost system shock like sample)
but heres where i hit a snag, i was sure i could just search for "words as seperete sound files" and find loads...i found a handful at best. so im looking for a site that has a list of words as samples from speeches etc, does anyone know of such a site
Clarification about the legal side, profit making etc: The mod like all mods i have made will be fully open source, free to use and download, never behind an adfly or such link, completly no profit made (this means the site with the words will need to be free)
Alternatives? : i could ditch the whole idea (dont realy want to do that)
random kind souls could upload samples of random words (more common the better)
so guys, does a site with seperete words like that exist? am i on a fools errand?

that is pretty spot on, more types of voices the better but once i get started that would be a good source for the start (credited of course, plus need to check the license he uses to ensure its ok in opensource project etc )
Oh great! I'm happy to hear that.
It appears all of the uploaded sounds are under CC Attribution.
