In cartoons I find that appropriate... if the character is right. I like their rather simplistic yet very effective sound design.
ok I'm uploading some religious rubbish
couldnt find a bell - actually I have bells - but need to record them (again!! )
so got some monks chanting ( common genereal plea )
an some cheerful funeral music...
I'm a big fan of the simpson SFX actually - they are really succinct! the opening sequence SFX are great- things like the sped up car..
hope that helps...
this week could really do with some *good* carpet footsteps
oh and any wooden surfaces.. ( hollow like a stage great! )

As for wood, I find http://www.freesound.org/people/avakas/ 's wood quite hollow.
For carpet, these seem promising:

here u go they moderated super fast!
funeral music
http://www.freesound.org/people/martian/sounds/182103/
monks chant..
http://www.freesound.org/people/martian/sounds/182105/
the wooden steps u linked are kind of ok... but not enough dynamics to really edit.. ( they are a bit short for my purpose - you need quite long ones to loop else they sound looped )
for me perfect recording would have walk, run and scuffing/ milling around - and several variations of each.. dont ask for much do I?
the first carpet one u posted is super noisy and booming
and the 2nd and 3rd are the same!
( some one uploaded the same samples?! haha - I found a few of those up here... I even found one of mine edited into somebody elses,.. some naughty freesounders it seems!
my pack has now been moderated.
You can access my pack of recorded doors here.

Please let me know what you think of this pack.
Omar, nice sounds... but there is too much hiss (and quite a dense one) for my use/taste.
Martian... too bad these monks are not in stereo
I've uploaded 5 new sound in my Door pack http://www.freesound.org/people/matucha/packs/7186/ . Two windows and 3 perspectives of one door.
BTW moderation today seems to be super fast. My sounds are available for download very shortly after uploaded. Thumbs up.
I might have a go with izotope on them
gonna download your pack update matucha
yeah too bad the monks not in stereo - actually sometimes jus relieved to have even mono tho!

Natural unaffected recording.
I'm uploading some door samples with variations I've recorded. Until it passes moderation you can download it here:

I just uploaded some door samples, but they aren't moderated yet:
They will be published soon in this pack:
http://www.freesound.org/people/DrZoom/packs/11798/
Example:
http://www.freesound.org/people/DrZoom/sounds/186742/
Recorded using a Zoom H4n with the built-in microphone. As close as possible.
There is very little background noise, should be filterable. But I liked to keep the reverb of the room.
