Recently I've been trying to find some sort of MIDI controller in the form of a pedalboard. I want to trigger samples through FrutiLoops, or similar software, directly. I want to keep my hands free for the guitar.
I've seen a lot of MIDI pedals online, but most of them seem to be for guitarists and full of frills (expression pedals etc.) and a lot of them don't even have a USB connection. What I'm after is quite simple, but is for some reason hard to find.
Anyone got any ideas of what I should get???
could a midi drum pad be an option for you?
Something like this http://www.futuremusic.com/news/images/alesis-controlpad.jpg
Trickier to control by foot than a real pedal, but most of the surface is devoted to pads, and it would let you control more than one sample.
As for the usb connection, you could fix that with a usb/midi cable; the cheapest ones have more latency, but still usable outside of live performances.
I guess the drumpad thing is an option. It just seems weird that there isn't much of the specific, but really simple thing I'm after.
I had a look at this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_fcb_1010.htm
All the demos and descriptions available online for it are treating it as a guitar pedal, but it would be possible, in theory, to use it as a sample trigger, right?
Well of course it's born to be naturally a controller; in fact, from the description on the site, "2 expression pedals (with freely assignable MIDI channel, controller number & range)".
EDIT: HUGE "meh": "MIDI note-on commands" later on in the description
So yes, it can control a sampler to trigger notes too.
