    Freesound so damn great.

Just bought a t-shirt. Love this site!

I always felt dirty going to the "download free sounds" sites that had no mention of authors or licensing. And I just knew these sites were full of ripped-off work, though it was tough to know which. So it's a relief to see a solid, popular website with a huge inventory of legit sounds. I rarely bother going any place else when I look for sounds to use from my projects.

I think of this place as the beautiful middle ground between generosity to people who use sounds and respect for the authors that record and create them. I also appreciate the care taken in accepting new sounds--moderators! And features like listing the sounds you've downloaded to make it easier to attribute.

Long live freesound! You're doing it right.

Yes, this site is really nice.
I'm new to this but love the CC licences, and contribution sites like this.

I've downloaded some sounds some months ago, and now I'm uploading some of my material.

This website was very useful for me, I am very glad that it exists. I used a lot of sounds from people, that posted them over here, many thanks for that. Makes me realise, that I should get better at uploading sounds though.

Just registered and having a good time finding all the stuff I need. Was an original member of Soundsnap before those boogers went fully pay-per-sound. I would gladly donate what I can afford, but they charge a ridiculous amount for sounds. So glad to find this site and I hope it'll be around for a long time.

Freesound aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, bleeps, ... released under Creative Commons licenses that allow their reuse. Freesound provides new and interesting ways of accessing these samples, allowing users to:

browse the sounds in new ways using keywords, a "sounds-like" type of browsing and more
upload and download sounds to and from the database, under the same creative commons license
    interact with fellow sound-artists!

We also aim to create an open database of sounds that can also be used for scientific research. Many audio research institutions have trouble finding correctly licensed audio to test their algorithms. Many have voiced this problem, but so far there hasn't been a solution.
