Hi, New User here at FreeSound. Had a question, and I couldn't find the answer in the FAQ.
I wanted to donate "voice samples" that I used for a project, but some are .com names & product names.
Example: Can I upload a wav that is ME saying "Firefox"? or does someone 'own' the right
for that word to be recorded?
Here is the link to the mini-video that the samples where used in:

I just don't want the site to get in trouble (or me either), but figured someone may be able to use them in another project.

That question also applies to your original YouTube submission, doesn't it?
I suppose it's one thing to use it in the project (how do you describe something without saying it?), but another to post these files taken out of context and broken into individual files.

Well, to say it in conversation is one thing; to say it in a video posted to a public place (as a work of art? an advertisement?) might be another. I'm not sure, though.
Any hoot, I guess I'll drop the firefox and dotcom names and upload the rest.
ThanX.

Safest bet, I think. But I hope someone who knows the rules about this sort of thing drops in and comments. I'm interested in knowing what the real answer is.
My guess, I don't think it should be a problem to post the saying of the company names.
I can just imagine all the songs out there that drop product names in them taking them out of their songs if they had to pay some kind of royalty.
The only thing where it might be a problem is if you're copying the way the company uses its name in an ad. Like say the "By Menin" jingle. If you're saying Firefox in your own original away or a non "musically copyrighted" way I can't see it being an issue.
Well, I guess I'll upload the last two wav's and if anyone asks me to take them down, I'll let you guys know. Now where did I put those wav's?......

What is the difference between saying the name "Firefox" and writing it ... which has been done throughout this forum?
But as soundhead mentioned earlier,

I can't think of a way that they could really go after that sample unless it copies some "musically" copyrighted way they say it.(as I said in the previous reply)
But if someone actually tried to name their band Firefox, they might be able to go after them.(but that has nothing to do with your sample) The only reason why I could see this was I've heard the band Sugar Ray used to actually be called Shrinky Dinx but changed their name to avoid legal troubles with the company that makes them.(but then again they never went to court to actually see who would win)
.milan, it would be pretty funny if they did have bands like Taco Bell and McDonalds. In tragic news toady, the lead singer of Taco Bell has died from E. Coli, while the DJ of McDonalds has just died of a heart attack.
