Hi, I am a new user here, I am quite interested in this website and also wants to collaborate with other musicians here, but I have a few questions since I am a newer here, can you help me on that? it will helps me a lot before I start collaborating with yours here. thank you very much!
1. what kind of problems you usually occur in collaborating with others in the freesound project?
2. how do you contact with the one you would like to collaborate? (first time)
3. Did the website help you much on inspiration or music production?
4. Do you think the comments that have being given on your samples are useful in producting process?
5. could you trace the people who use your samples?
6. what are positive/negative points of being subscribed into this website?
Welcome to Freesound! ( :
To answer your questions
1: file formats may be a problem if your audio programs are different, but it depends on how many other people you are working with I suppose.
2: private messaging (using the forum for personal conversation would be considered spam in some cases)
3: what inspires one person may not inspire another so it all depends on the person.
4: In my personal opinion the comments DO help as long as the constructive criticism is more constructive than criticism.
5: Yes you can, you can not only see exactly which people downloaded it, but how many, and what other sounds they downloaded after downloading yours ( :
6: positive: there is a long list of positive aspects, the "Sample Requests" page, for example, allows you to ask other people from freesound for sounds that either you are not capable of generating yourself, or simply finding something you cannot locate on the website.
I hope this helps you out.
Now start exploring!

Welcome! (I tried to reply earlier but my connection was on the fritz.)
1. If any, my collaborations are usually indirect. So, remixing a sample that has been posted or something.
2. Forums PM/email
3. Absolutely. I feel more motivated to get better at audio work, and it's a huge boost to see people downloading, rating, and reviewing the samples I post. It's good to know that people are finding a use for stuff that would otherwise just collect dust on my hard drive, and it feels even better to actually fulfill sample requests successfully (I see it as good practice even if the requester doesn't use it, although it's better when they do and post the result.)
4. I don't get a huge amounts of comments on my samples (although with the comment REMINDERS Bram added, this is getting better.) However, the regulars here know their stuff, and I find that when I solicit advice on the forums they always come through.
5. Hm... well there is the "Remix tree" feature but I often forget to use it. Aside from that, you can check the attribution listings of whatever work is posted in the "your work made with freesound" forum. (As far as I know, here's nothing legally wrong with someone using your sample correctly under Sampling+ and not telling you, but it's regarded as a courtesy to do so.)
6. Positive: Excellent free sample library (of course), great community of sound designers/composers/etc. of both the amateur and professional variety.
Negative: Not many since we offer the open-source money back guarantee (TM). I guess you could say the Sampling+ license since it's a bit confusing, but a license change is currently under discussion. Oh, and getting caught up in a debate about whether trance music sucks.
LS
because it does.what hall? you didn't think i'd speak up?
okay bram i'll stop now.
Anyway, I just hope that we don't get into the habit of scaring off new users with long debates in their first thread.
